The fabric breaks down once the quilting thread di The fabric breaks down once the quilting thread disintegrates. I'm going back in and finding the memory in the fabric, to return the secures where they need to go, where they once went, and in other new spots too.

Sheldon has been reading the Phantom Tollbooth aloud while I continue to heal this tattery quilt.

I count 11 visible mends in the first picture alone :)

My studio is its own living artwork and I'm the little gear that animates the space. I am so grateful to have a studio.
To the right are bags of hand dyed fabrics sorted by color. The dye swatch guide i painted back in college is still serving me usefully, though it's falling off the shelf here, with the colors facing away from view. To the left of the hallway: some usable roll storage (on a cool carved rack I bought from a consigner down valley). Beneath the roll rack, the wedding quilt sleeps inside the suitcase I took to New Mexico to receive grandmother's star. Then bins and boxes of my ever-expanding lifelong collection of journals, which will soon be housed in the open on a floating shelf on the west wall. A little wooden stool from my grandmother's garage is awaiting the limelight. Beyond the basket (I love elephant grass baskets...it's a minor addiction), a ladder I've used at craft fairs to display greeting cards. Then Lucey--my star--and the commander of the energy channel. Beyond her, a foamcut first-layer sketch for a defunct mural project (maybe another year?) and beside that, a little window into a favorite corner of land where other creatures often dwell in private, and the red mountains beyond.

Cruising along on a new piece.

Listening to Gabe Brown's "Dirt to Soil: one family's journey to regenerative agriculture." Highly recommend! In my head it's having an interesting conversation with Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass (a must-read).

Two years ago I didn't even know my grandmother's Two years ago I didn't even know my grandmother's first name. I kept having dreams about her and finally wrote her a letter. We made contact and I even visited her house for the first time. My film project was informed by this journey. Today I'm bringing the wedding quilt to visit her, so she can stitch a star.

Making the cut on "New Horizons," the latest quilt Making the cut on "New Horizons," the latest quilt (pair) in my Lifeline quilt series. I began this piece in a frenzy and my very last days working at KU, hand-dyeing all the flannel and running rows rampant as I was loading the moving truck. It was the first piece I put on Lucey in my new studio here in Glenwood. I was surprised to receive the "it's finished" message much earlier than anticipated, as I'm used to filling all spaces with layers and density. As my mind fills in all the spaces with what could have been or what might be, I understand the piece is functioning exactly how it's supposed to. And now, after the big cut, it has a divided nature beyond singularity: one piece in two parts. I'm meditating on possibly a striped piecework binding and some sort of hook and eye closure for impermanent joining and separation.

After many years of moving, renting time on other machines, planning, making art, selling art, teaching, and spiraling growth, I felt the time was right to bring one home this year. It was the scariest purchase of my life and a continual investment into my calling as an artist. Her name is Lucey: "as of light."

I'm pleased to announce that I have invested in a long arm machine! This purchase has been over a decade in the making but it still was a huge scary leap reflecting my continued commitment towards my calling as an artist. Her name is Lucy and she will be arriving soon to my studio-house in Glenwood Springs!

Other good tidings:

I will be teaching at the Basalt Art Base later this fall! My first workshop is called Intuitive Piecework.

On Nov 5 Sheldon caught his first fish in the river by our house. That happening gave me the flicker of "home."

I met someone today who will help me move the film project forward by letting me use some of her equipment! I'm so grateful and amazed by the magic! 🦋

A big part of my studio practice in my new place has been connecting to the land and plants. Deeply considering what is here and what could be. I want to make a positive difference here for as long as I am a part of the landscape.

I am continuing to build a matrix of new skills and pastimes in line with the life of my dreams. I've applied for Yestermorrow's Natural Building intensive next year as I am envisioning several handmade buildings on this lot.

I also am honored to have been awarded North House Folk School's Furniture Design and Modeling scholarship! I will be visiting their campus this November with my award!
